You might find the perfect roommate online, but it might be safer going with a referral from someone you know and trust.
  3. Search Online. There are several places to search when looking for a roommate. While many people turn to Craigslist, it can be a bit sketchy, thankfully there are many alternative websites dedicated to helping you find the best person for you. Some websites like roomster even have verified members with links to their social profiles so you can get a good idea who the person is, who their friends are and much more.
  4. Meet In Person. Once you have narrowed your search, now it is time to meet face to face. Pick a neutral location like a coffee shop for your first meeting. Don’t forget to remember the list you made on what you were looking for. Ask about them the things you classified as deal breakers to be sure you are getting what you want. It might be a good idea to bring a friend with you to get their opinion as well.
  5. The Roommate Agreement. Now you have successfully navigated your way through finding a roommate. The last step is getting a roommate agreement in place. The agreement cover everything from rent to who is responsible for things like cleaning, groceries, cooking, etc. There are several places online that you can find some sample agreements. Remember, vague and informal may lead to problems down the line.
